Welcome to our site
Ethnic Minority Traveller and Refugee Achievement Service
Welcome in different Languages

On this web site you will find information and advice on teaching EMAG and refugee pupils in Newcastle. In "The Blue Book" you will find advice and strategies on teaching EAL pupils and general information. Its worth a look! There is also a good booklet on Refugee issues. Emtras is a service which is committed to providing equality of opportunity in education to learners of English as an additional language. The service is funded by the DfES standards fund and the Local Education Authority. All schools in the LEA are able to access the Service to receive information and advice about EAL pupils through an advisory visit.

If an assessment by a specialist EAL / refugee teacher is thought necessary then the EMTRAS teacher will contact the school to arrange a suitable time to assess the pupils and to consult with the headteacher / subject teacher / form teacher.
